The Shattering
Not for the light-hearted
There are many things that go on behind closed doors that shouldn’t. A child deserves to keep their innocence and deserves to be able to trust. What I am about to embark upon is an untold story of truth and of pain, deception and years and years of secrets. This is a story of so many lives that were used and abused, a story hard to listen to and difficult to tell. What I can tell you is not all that there is, it started long before I was made to exist. The tragedies just never seemed to fade, everyday something was bound to go wrong…or someone was bound to be harmed. Predators every where you turned, not a single safe place to turn for comfort and protection, the word trust just didn’t exist in these peoples lives, they weren’t to know the meaning of it, how could they when everything that went on around them was looked upon in fear? My stomach churns at the thought of what I am about to tell, I don’t even know how to start but someone needs to. A small fragile child, so afraid, tears welling in her heart…standing still clenching the hope that her mother would just know that if she left…this child’s entire life would be shattered. But how was her mother to know, how do you tell a six year old her mother can’t read her mind. The child’s heart sunk into the deep of her soul as she watched her family walk away. She new deep down inside that she was about to be harmed, about to have all of her pride and innocence stripped from her childhood. About to see the rest of her life poisoned by an act of violence, so unspeakable she would be silenced for years. It all began when my Nanna was fourteen; she was out strolling in the park and along came my Pop, a middle-aged man about 35. She would say handsome. He approached her and started showing her the affection she had been longing for. She would see him all the time. She said she was in love. My Pop was 35 at the time and he was married with children. The story goes on…my Nan became pregnant with his child and went on to have seven children to this man that never married her. Seven children of whose lives were to be destroyed by this predator. The beginning of what was to become an ongoing tragedy of pain and fear. Many lives would be abused and broken. These children’s hearts were to be buried beneath a gruesome fear. Many children would have all their innocence stolen from their souls. Terrible feelings would eat at them; it would tear out their insides and freeze their minds. These feelings would scream to get out but they would have nowhere to go. The fear that was built inside them silenced their confidence to speak of all the harm. The manipulation produced by one man, a frightening creature that would lurk and take advantage of every given moment....(to be continued).
