Clandestine Confessions

Nina Holden

I think this book can be very helpful to young women who have been sexually assaulted and their loved ones. It is good for those who need to hear that it was not their fault and that what they are feeling is normal.
The book is about an eighteen-year-old girl who is raped. Although she reports the crime, the police does not help her. She is afraid to confide in other people because she thinks they won’t believe this man did this to her against her will. The book describes how the girl’s personality changes completely due to the attack and that she experiences problems (also physical) with her boyfriend whom she meets more than a year after she was raped. She doesn’t know where to turn for help. She feels ashamed to talk to anyone about her problems and the people she tries to confide in don’t seem to be able to understand what she is going through. Therefore I think this book is also good for loved ones of survivors to better understand what that person is feeling.
If you go to the web site http://www.clandestineconfessions.com you can read more about the book as well as the first chapter.
